Is Yoga A Good Workout

0

Earlier this year a health reported put out a report which made yoga out to be this terrible thing for your body… in fact my husband even quite doing it because of the power of the article. It caused yogi’s everywhere to jump up in rage
Of course they would, yoga has become very popular over the last few years and no one in that group wants to see it do a nose dive… it’s bad for business!
So, is yoga actually bad for you? Research shows that in terms of stretching, flexibility is a great thing to have. Stretching in general helps muscles to recover faster from workouts, helps improve circulation and helps to bring your stress levels down.
But while that sounds all hunky dorie, there are some things to keep in mind… when it comes to fat burning workouts, yoga isn’t one of them. It isn’t a cardio enough workout to raise your heart rate and burn off the calories.
I promise that celebrities like Jennifer Aniston do a heck of a lot more than just sit around all day doing downward facing dogs.
This fun fact of yoga really stunned me… but because of all the deep breathing it can actually slow your metabolism and that I can say is not the outcome you want. With a slower metabolism that means you’ll be burning less calories in your day and you definitely will not see those pounds falling off like you wanted.
Keep in mind you should always talk with your doctor but there is no denying the large range of benefits that do come from the activity and while it shouldn’t be your only workout program it definitely can pop up as a piece of the total puzzle. After all, you can lower your blood pressure and your stress and increase your overall strength.
Never do yoga right before a vigorous workout, it’s much better as a cool down or later on in the day or even better on off days from intense programs. Stretching before exercise can lead to injuries from muscles, ligaments and tendons being relaxed a bit more than you would want.
Now… what do you think, are you giving up on yoga? I hope not, it feels just way too good!
