Another important part of learning yoga is deciding which type you would like to learn. There are 4 main types of yoga that you need to know about.

First there is Hatha yoga, which places a lot of importance upon the perfect physical form because practitioners believe that this is what helps them attain spiritual perfection.

Secondly, there is Kundalini Yoga. This type of yoga focuses upon the psychic centers in the body because they believe that releasing these will help them to generate a spiritual power.

Third, there is Bhakti Yoga which advocates love and devotion as the path to being liberated.

Fourth, there is Tantra Yoga. Since this form of yoga has its roots in the ancient fertility practices of India, it focuses upon arousing and channeling sexual energy.

Preparing To Practice Your Yoga Poses

Once you have decided what type of yoga you would like to learn you will need to get prepared. This means purchasing a mat and finding comfortable clothes to wear. These do not have to be “special yoga clothes” but the clothes that you decide to wear do need to be non-restrictive and comfortable. You are also going to need to have a quiet place in your home where you can practice your yoga poses.

Consulting With A Doctor Before Practicing Yoga Poses

Make sure that you do not begin practicing yoga if you have any physical injuries. Instead, take the time to talk to your doctor first. This is important because yoga is meant to help you, not cause you more pain. Plus, you do not want to underestimate the energy that is required to perform the yoga poses. While these yoga poses may look simple, practicing them is going to require strength and stamina.
